Pre Rup Crematorium, Spring 2008

Pre Rup Crematorium.

This complex was used in ancient times as a crematorium. Most of the towers you see are giant ovens.

More ovens.

Doorway to the complex.

A side view from the stairs.

Like other temples, the crematorium was built in levels.

A wide view of the same ovens.

Remains of a side building.

More ruins.

A side view looking up at the three top towers.

An angled view of the steps.

Looking upward.

The black ashes on the walls show where the fires were built in the ovens.

Looking up the chimney.

Like other steps in Cambodia, these were pretty steep.

A worn carving sits on the ground.

Entry to an oven.

Looking down on the landscape from the top of the crematorium.

Looking down at a different angle.

You can just barely make out the towers of Angkor Wat in the distance.

Another view from the top.

One last view of the landscape.

Between buildings.

Another oven.

Looking down at two doorways from above.

Looking out over the grounds.

Looking up at one of the central towers.

Looking back down into a lower level.

More surrounding landscape.

Apsaras are visible on this tower.

Apsaras on the corner.

Towers on different levels.

More towers.

Heading back down.

Looking over the side.

Another view of the ruins below.

For lunch I had my usual chicken curry in a coconut.

This was inexpensive, tasty and really filled you up with a side of rice.
